Former Haiphong police chief admitted taking money in tax evasion case

HCMC – Do Huu Ca, former police chief of Haiphong City, has confessed to taking VND35 billion from a person who asked him for help in an ongoing investigation, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

Do Huu Ca kept the sum intact and submitted it in full to investigators, Lieutenant General To An Xo, spokesman of the ministry, said at a Government press conference this afternoon, March 3.

Major General Do Huu Ca was found to be involved in asset misappropriation fraud. He took VND35 billion from Truong Xuan Duoc to help him escape the tax evasion probe.

Therefore, investigators detained Ca on the above-mentioned charges and three Haiphong City residents – Duoc, Duoc’s wife Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh and Truong Van Nam for illegally dealing in invoices and tax documents.

The local police are continuing their investigation to identify others involved in the case.

Ca served as deputy director of the Haiphong Police Department and head of the department’s Investigative Agency from May 2003 to June 2010. After that, he was promoted to Party secretary and director of the Haiphong Police Department between July 2010 and June 2013.
