Former NA deputy Luu Binh Nhuong expelled from Party

HCMC – Luu Binh Nhuong, former deputy of the National Assembly (NA), has been expelled from the Party by the Inspection Commission of the Party Central Committee for abuse of his position and power for personal gain.

At the meeting today, December 20, the commission determined that Nhuong had violated the Party’s rules and the State’s laws. He had abused his position and power for personal gain, violated the Law on the Protection of State Secrets, negatively affecting the reputation of the Party and State agencies.

Nhuong was detained on November 14 by the police of Thai Binh Province on alleged charges of embezzlement of property under Article 170(4) of the Penal Code. The police searched his residence and workplace, seizing various items and documents indicating legal violations.

The arrest comes as the police are broadening an investigation against Pham Minh Cuong, 37 years old, on alleged charges of embezzlement of property. Cuong and his accomplices had been accused of unlawfully assuming control over sand mines to extort money from several businesses.
