HCMC – The Ministry of Finance has picked Mai Xuan Thanh as director general of the General Department of Taxation, effective from September 6, 2023.
Thanh had been serving as acting director general of the Department of Taxation for the past seven months. Prior to this, he held the position of deputy director general of the General Department of Customs.
Hailing from Nam Dinh Province, Thanh has dedicated over three decades of his career to the finance sector after his graduation from the University of Finance and Accountancy. Throughout his career, he has held various positions and leadership roles within the General Department of Customs before taking on the roles of deputy director general and acting director general of the General Department of Taxation.
This appointment comes after Cao Tuan Anh, former director general of the General Department of Taxation, was promoted to the post of deputy minister of finance.
The leadership team of the General Department of Taxation now consists of Director General Mai Xuan Thanh and four Deputy Directors General: Phi Van Tuan, Dang Ngoc Minh, Vu Chi Hung and Mai Son.
