HCMC – The capital city of Hanoi was named among the world’s top 10 cities with the worst air pollution this morning, September 3, reported Thanh Nien newspaper.

Data recorded by AirVisual at 7 a.m. today showed that the air quality in Hanoi was unhealthy for people, with the air quality index (AQI) reaching the red-warning level of 163, which put the Vietnamese capital in fifth place among the world’s 10 cities with the worst air pollution.

According to AirVisual, the air quality in most areas in the north was also bad as the AQIs recorded at monitoring stations there reached the red level.

Data released from Pam Air, an environmental quality tracking app, indicated that most of the inner-city areas in Hanoi suffered the worst air pollution, with the AQIs at the red or purple levels, affecting the health of local residents.

The AQIs measured by Pam Air were between 160 and 250. The index remained relatively high in Hoan Kiem District’s Phan Chu Trinh Ward at 245, the De La Thanh area in Dong Da District at 247 and the area near the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi at 244.
