HCMC – Contractors have been ordered to complete remaining works on the more-than-70-kilometer Hau Giang-Ca Mau section to enable full operation of the Can Tho-Ca Mau Expressway by the April 30 holiday.

The My Thuan Project Management Board said on April 16 that it had told contractors to accelerate construction and finalize outstanding items on the section, which is part of the 110-kilometer Can Tho–Ca Mau Expressway.

With a total cost of over VND27.5 trillion, the expressway got off the ground in January 2023 and was put into operation in January 2026. It consists of two sections: Can Tho–Hau Giang and Hau Giang–Ca Mau.

The Hau Giang–Ca Mau section was closed to traffic on March 16 due to some incomplete works, including drainage systems and concrete shoulders. Uneven surfaces at several bridge approaches and culverts led to the temporary closure of this section for further completion.

Progress has lagged behind schedule due to rising fuel and material costs and shortages of construction materials, according to the project developer. Contractors have been instructed to mobilize resources to meet the deadline.

The Ministry of Construction has set up an inspection team to oversee the work and address sections that do not meet surface standards, aiming to ensure construction quality and traffic safety.
