HCMC – The Transport Department of HCMC commenced upgrading two major bridges on December 31 as part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure along critical routes.
Binh Trieu 1 Bridge on National Highway 13 and Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge on National Highway 1 will be upgraded with a combined budget of VND242 billion. Construction is expected to take eight months, with completion scheduled for 2025, according to the department.
Binh Trieu 1, spanning the Saigon River and connecting Binh Thanh District and Thu Duc City, will undergo a 1.08-meter elevation and reinforcement with bored piles at a cost of VND132 billion. Similarly, the 759-meter-long Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge will be raised by 1.25 meters, with a budget of VND110 billion.
Both upgrades will utilize hydraulic lifting systems to increase clearance for river traffic to a minimum of seven meters. Reinforced concrete will be applied to strengthen structural components and enhance durability.
City officials emphasized the importance of these upgrades in addressing heavy traffic demands and meeting clearance height standards for river navigation. These two bridges are the last along the Saigon River that do not currently meet clearance requirements.
Efforts will prioritize maintaining construction schedules and minimizing disruptions for commuters, said Nguyen Xuan Vinh, director of the Roads Management Center.
