HCMC – The HCMC People’s Council has elected Nguyen Van Dung, vice chair of the city’s People’s Committee, as vice chair of the People’s Council for the 2021–2026 term, with all 144 delegates present voting in favor.
The vote took place at the eighth session of the 10th People’s Council on February 6, according to official meeting results.
Dung has served as vice chair of the HCMC People’s Committee since November 2023. He previously held the post of vice chair of the People’s Council during the same term.
Born in 1972 and a native of HCMC, Dung holds a master’s degree in political science, bachelor’s degrees in law and economics, and an advanced degree in political theory.
At the same session, the council approved a resolution confirming the election of Pham Van Nghi as a member of the HCMC People’s Committee for the 2021–2026 term. Nghi is currently the city’s chief inspector.
Nghi, born in 1978 and from Dong Thap Province, holds a master’s degree in law and an advanced degree in political theory. He served as deputy chief inspector from 2020 before being appointed chief inspector in December 2025.
The council also approved a resolution removing Tran Van Tuan from his position as vice chair of the People’s Council. Tuan has been assigned by the Standing Committee of the city’s Party Committee to serve as head of the HCMC Internal Affairs Commission.
