HCMC reports one locally transmitted Covid-19 case

HCMC – The Ministry of Health reported one locally transmitted Covid-19 case in HCMC this evening, November 30, which is the country’s first locally transmitted case in over 80 days.

The patient, who is identified as the country’s 1,347th Covid-19 case, is a teacher of English residing in Ward 3, District 6. He is a friend of the 1,342nd patient, a flight attendant returning to the city from Japan in mid-November.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long immediately held an urgent meeting with the HCMC Department of Health to discuss this case and necessary preventive measures.

While staying at a quarantine center in Tan Binh District from November 14 to 18, the 1,342nd patient had close contact with the 1,325th case, who is also a flight attendant.

After testing negative for Covid-19 twice, the patient was put under home isolation in the district. During this time, the patient had close contact with three persons, including his mother and two friends.

On November 28, the patient’s sample was taken for Covid-19 testing for the third time and the result turned positive.

Samples from the three persons who had close contact with the patient were immediately taken for Covid-19 testing. One of the patient’s friends, a 32-year-old man, tested positive for Covid-19 and was identified as the 1,347th patient.

From November 18 to 25, the patient taught English at KEY English Center in the districts of Tan Binh and 10 and visited a coffee shop and a karaoke outlet.

He had close contact with 38 people, who have been put under quarantine now. The HCMC Department of Health is working to identify and quarantine other people who had close contact with him.

The Health Minister asked the city to tighten control over Covid-19 infection prevention and disinfect all venues that the patient visited recently. People who came to these venues between November 18 and 25 are asked to contact the local health authorities as soon as possible.
