HCMC – Metro Line No. 1 in HCMC will offer free rides to all passengers on National Day, September 2, the operator announced.
Passengers can ride for free by scanning their national ID or chip-based citizen ID at the gate, or by using the HCMC Metro HURC app to generate a ticket through the “Independent QR” feature and scanning the QR code at the gate.
If passengers still purchase tickets to board the train, the system will charge them as usual and no refunds will be issued.
The company said the “Independent QR” feature on the HCMC Metro HURC app will go live on September 2 and be valid for use that day only.
Starting August 29, the company will officially put 44 automatic ticket kiosks into operation at all stations along Metro Line No. 1.
From the same day, passengers can purchase single-ride tickets, day passes (one-day or three-day), and monthly passes, as well as link monthly passes to their ID or chip-based citizen ID for train access.
Beginning September 15, the company will pilot a plan to stop selling paper tickets with QR codes at ticket counters in four stations: Opera House, Ba Son, Van Thanh, and Phuoc Long, as part of efforts to promote cashless payments.
On the National Day holiday (September 2), metro services will run from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Specifically, on August 30 and 31, trains will operate 251 trips per day, while on September 1 and 2, the number will increase to 264 trips daily.
