HCMC – The HCMC government has proposed developing a six-kilometer road connecting the Cat Lai-Phu Huu Terminal in Thu Duc City with the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway and the Ring Road No. 3 project to ease traffic congestion in the terminal area.

In a proposal sent to the Ministry of Transport, HCMC Chairman Phan Van Mai wrote that the road will be 60 meters wide with 12 lanes and allow a maximum speed of 60 kilometers per hour, the local media reported.

The road was designed to start at an intersection with Nguyen Thi Dinh Street, pass through Nguyen Thi Tu Street and Ba Cua and Ong Nhieu canals, and end at an intersection of the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway and the Ring Road No. 3 project.

A section from Nguyen Thi Tu Street to Ong Nhieu Canal will include a viaduct and parallel roads, while a section from Ong Nhieu Canal to the Ring Road No. 3 project will be elevated.

According to the municipal chairman, the road project will help facilitate cargo transport into and from the Cat Lai-Phu Huu Terminal, contributing to easing traffic pressure on Nguyen Thi Dinh, Dong Van Cong and Nguyen Duy Trinh streets.

The Cat Lai-Phu Huu Terminal is important to import-export activities in HCMC and the southern key economic zone as a whole.

However, traffic around the terminal is always heavy.

While undertaking planning for Thu Duc City, the HCMC government found that the road linking the Cat Lai-Phu Huu Terminal, the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway and the Ring Road No. 3 project is necessary.

According to the HCMC government, some 59 hectares of land will be needed for the road project. The city proposed the Ministry of Transport give its opinions about the project so that the city can conduct further steps.
