HCMC – The HCMC Department of Transport is seeking to open a separate lane for cyclists and pedestrians on Hanoi Highway in the east of the city.
Director of the department Tran Quang Lam has just asked the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center of HCMC and related agencies to conduct a study to this effect, and the study must be completed and submitted to the department in July.
This scheme is in response to the Government’s Resolution 48 on improving traffic safety and easing congestion, which also asked HCMC authorities to organize separate lanes for bicycle riders on a trial basis.
The separate lane for bicycle riders and pedestrians on Hanoi Highway is the vacant strip of land sandwiched between the main route and parallel roads stretching nearly four kilometers from Rach Chiec Bridge to Saigon Bridge in Thu Duc City.
