HCMC – HCMC has set a target for its digital economy to make up 40% of its gross regional domestic product (GRDP) by 2030, according to a new action plan mapped out by the People’s Committee of HCMC.

To achieve this goal, the city is focusing on enhancing labor productivity, advancing technology, and boosting investment in research.

By 2030, the plan envisions that 40% of local businesses will engage in sci-tech innovations, and the number of internationally-recognized research projects will double. The city also aims to have five leading scientific organizations in the region.

Annual patent applications are expected to rise by 16-18%, and new plant varieties are projected to increase by 12-14%.

The commercialization rate of inventions is targeted at 10%, and total factor productivity is anticipated to contribute 50% to GRDP growth. Additionally, spending on science and technology will reach 1% of GRDP, with 65% allocated specifically to research and development.

The action plan also includes the establishment of an innovation startup center to foster entrepreneurship and the development of Thu Duc City as a national high-tech hub.
