HCMC – Metro Line No. 1 in HCMC will not be ready for commercial service in July this year as earlier planned, the Management Authority for Urban Railways of HCMC (MAUR) said.

MAUR has written to the HCMC People’s Committee seeking approval for an extension of the completion date of the city’s first urban rail line to the fourth quarter of this year.

The extension will facilitate a safety review, fire safety inspection, human resource training, and trial operations, which are scheduled in the third quarter of this year.

To ensure the completion of the 19.7-kilometer-long metro line by the end of this year, MAUR has asked for good coordination between it and relevant departments to make schedule adjustments.

Connecting the landmark Ben Thanh Market in District 1 and Suoi Tien Theme Park in Thu Duc City, Metro Line No. 1 requires a total of VND43.7 trillion, which is sourced from Japanese ODA loans and Vietnam’s reciprocal funding.

Since work on the project commenced in 2012, multiple delays have affected the progress of the project, which is now 98% complete.
