HCMC – The HCMC People’s Committee proposed the Ministry of Transport approve the plan to deliver part of Highway 1K, the section across the city, to the locality for management due to rising traffic accidents.

Until now, accidents and deaths have increased 300% on this highway section over the same period. Specifically, from Dec 2021 to Sept 2022, four serious traffic accidents occurred on Highway 1K, the section across HCMC, killing four people and injuring two.

According to the HCMC People’s Committee, this section has many inadequacies, such as the insufficient arrangement of a traffic signal system, illogical lane signs, lack of traffic signals, warning signs and lighting systems at intersections and dangerous places.

The highway is currently under the management of the Road Administration Department IV under the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam.

The Road Administration Department IV said funds had not been allocated to the unit to fix the shortcomings of the road infrastructure.

To cope with the lack of traffic safety on 1K Highway, the HCMC People’s Committee proposed the Ministry of Transport direct the managing unit to ensure human and traffic safety across this section, pending the approval of the Ministry of Transport authorizing the city to manage it.

1K Highway connects Thu Duc City – HCMC, Di An – Binh Duong and Bien Hoa – Dong Nai, which has a length of nearly 2 km from the Linh Xuan intersection to the HCMC – Binh Duong area.
