Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi is drawing visitors with its daily “Path of History” tour, offering a glimpse into the storied past of the 123-year-old luxury hotel, including its wartime bomb shelter.
The tour showcases vintage artifacts and photographs of notable guests, such as Jane Fonda and Joan Baez. Its main attraction is the underground bunker that sheltered visitors during air raids in the U.S.-Vietnam War. The shelter was sealed after the war and forgotten until its rediscovery during a 2011 renovation.
Now open to hotel guests, the chambers can be explored and photographed, providing a rare window into the hotel’s historic role during a pivotal era in Vietnam’s past.
