HCMC – Via RMIT Vietnam’s Opportunity Scholarship in 2022, Hang Thi Ly, a young woman from the H’mong ethnic group in the mountainous north-western region of Vietnam, traveled over 1,700 kilometers to study at RMIT Vietnam in HCMC.
She is one of the six recipients of RMIT Vietnam’s Opportunity Scholarship.
Born to a five-child family in Trong Tong Village, her family’s main source of income is farming and herding.
“As a child growing up in one of the poorest areas of Vietnam, I had to work hard to help my family. My siblings and I had to study at educational centers with tuition support,” said Ly.
Two years ago, Ly passed the entrance test to the Vietnam National University, Hanoi. However, she had to put off the dream because of economic difficulties. Instead, she opted to work right out of an online sales and marketing course to ease the financial burden on her family.
Ly is currently studying English to prepare for her course next year.
