Hoa Binh struck by magnitude-3.9 tremor

HCMC – A tremor measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale hit the northern upland province of Hoa Binh yesterday, November 14, according to the Institute of Geophysics.

The earthquake was detected at around 3 p.m., with a depth of some 12 kilometers and the epicenter located in Da Bac District. The quake posed no disaster risk, the Institute of Geophysics said.

The institute’s Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center is monitoring the tremor.

Some locals in Da Bac told Lao Dong Online that their houses shook, but no property was damaged.

Bui Khac Vinh, head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Division in the district, said that no damage or casualties linked to the quake had been reported as of 7 p.m. the same day.

In related news, the Institute of Geophysics announced on its official website that five tremors had struck Kon Plong District in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum with a magnitude ranging from 2.6-3.5 from yesterday till this morning. The latest quake to hit Kon Plong was reported at around 8 a.m. today, with a depth of 8.1 kilometers.
