HCMC – Hoi An and Dalat have become members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), a global initiative that fosters collaboration among cities whose urban development revolves around creativity and culture as drivers of growth.

Hoi An City in the central coastal province of Quang Nam was recognized for its crafts and folk art, while Dalat City, a renowned tourist destination in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, joined the network for its contributions in terms of music.

The two cities are now part of a network spanning nearly 300 cities worldwide, alongside 53 other newly designated cities.

Previously, Hanoi was the only city of Vietnam on the UCCN list thanks to its contributions to the field of design in 2019.

Established in 2004, the UCCN encompasses seven creative realms, including Crafts and Folk Art, Media Arts, Film, Design, Gastronomy, Literature and Music.

Vietnam has plans to add four to six more cities to its roster of UCCN members by 2030, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sport, and Tourism.
