HCMC Hue City in central Vietnam has reinstated its public bike-sharing program to make the city bicycle-friendly.

The program restarted on January 21 with 200 bicycles stationed at seven locations in the city. Local authorities plan to deploy 1,000 bicycles across 30 stations by September 2024.

This revival of the bike-sharing program follows a successful pilot phase conducted from June to December 2022, during which about 12,000 bike rides were recorded.

Vietsoftpro, the program’s partner, has upgraded Hue’s bike-sharing system by introducing new software and incorporating 4G locking technology to bolster security and enhance user experience.

The bicycle stations are placed close to key destinations and parks within the city, ensuring convenience for residents and visitors.

Hue has plans to develop bike lanes and enhance overall cycling infrastructure, with the aim of developing a more bicycle-friendly environment.
