HCMC – Many corporate leaders have attended the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) forum on climate change and the circular economy.

The “Corporate Leaders’ Forum on Climate Change and Circular Economy” was co-organized by JICA on October 27, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in HCMC.

The event was part of the Technical Cooperation Project for supporting Vietnam in responding to climate change – “Support for Planning and Implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions in Vietnam (SPI-NDC)”.

The forum updated participating corporate leaders with Vietnam’s most recent policies and requirements on greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction and ozone layer protection. This included requirements for selected enterprises at the facility level to conduct GHG accounting, prepare plans for GHG reduction, and for listed companies to write sustainability reports.

The participants also learned about international trends and the best practices for business sector GHG accounting and GHG reduction actions in the context of the Paris Agreement.

The panel discussion also enabled the proactive, concrete sharing and updates of corporate efforts and ongoing experiences toward zero emissions.

Among the multi-faceted challenges identified during the forum regarding the facilitation of the full and effective participation of private enterprises toward de-carbonization and the net zero emission pathway, JICA’s SPI-NDC team also shared its upcoming technical training opportunities starting this year, jointly implemented in partnership with VCCI and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
