HCMC – The last two trains of HCMC’s first metro line project, which links Ben Thanh Market in District 1 and Suoi Tien Park in Thu Duc City, arrived at the Khanh Hoi Port in District 4 this morning, May 6.
They are the 16th and 17th trains of the 17 trains of the metro line shipped to HCMC from Japan. These two will be transported to the Long Binh Depot in Thu Duc City on May 7 and 8 to serve the trial operation of the urban rail line, according to the Management Authority for Urban Railways of HCMC (MAUR).
Each three-car train is 61.5 meters long and can carry 930 passengers at a time. It can travel at a maximum speed of 110 kilometers per hour on elevated track and 80 kilometers per hour on underground track.
In January 2015, a replica of a Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro train carriage was displayed at the depot to collect feedback from local residents. After that, Japan’s Hitachi, the metro project’s contractor, completed the detailed design of the metro trains and started manufacturing the trains.
On October 9, 2020, the first train with three cars was shipped to HCMC. The remaining trains arrived in the city in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
