HCMC – Domestic airlines in Vietnam have experienced a decline in the on-time performance (OTP) during the first 10 months of this year, with only two airlines maintaining OTP rates above 90%, compared to four airlines in the previous year.

A recent report by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) revealed that from January to October, the entire aviation sector operated a total of 241,177 flights, which was 20,000 fewer than in the previous year. Despite the decrease in flight numbers, the OTP of local airlines did not improve during this period.

Out of the 241,177 flights, the CAAV reported that 204,816 were punctual, accounting for 84.9% of all flights. This represents a significant decrease of 4.1 percentage points compared to the previous year.

In the same period last year, four local airlines achieved OTP rates exceeding 90%: Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines, Vietravel Airlines, and VASCO. However, this year, only two of them, Bamboo Airways and VASCO, managed to maintain OTP rates above 90%.

Bamboo Airways led the aviation sector with an OTP of 92.4%, while VASCO came in second with a 91% OTP rate. Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines, Vietravel Airlines, and Pacific Airlines reported OTP rates of 86.8%, 86.6%, and 84.4%, respectively, during the first 10 months of this year.

Additionally, 0.3% of flights were canceled during this period, which was a slight decrease of 0.1% compared to the previous year. VASCO had the highest rate of canceled flights at 0.7%, while Pacific Airlines reported the lowest cancellation rate at 0.1%.
