HCMC – The authority of Hanoi has lifted the lockdown on Dong Cuu Village in the suburban district of Thuong Tin after a 28-day quarantine period. This is the last quarantined village in the capital city.
The district-level government of Thuong Tin held a ceremony announcing the lifting of the lockdown at midnight on May 14.
No new Covid-19 infections were recorded in the village from April 14 after a Dong Cuu resident was confirmed as positive for the new coronavirus, tagged as the 266th case.
The woman, 36, earlier came to Bach Mai Hospital, one of the country’s largest hotspots for the coronavirus, to take care of her mother who was receiving treatment at the hospital’s Functional Rehabilitation Department from March 8 to 10.
Before the lockdown was lifted, the local health authority had collected 1,200 samples from people at 399 households for testing and the results had all come back negative, according to Kieu Xuan Huy, chairman of the district’s government.
Local authorities and residents were asked to keep complying with protective measures against the spread of Covid-19, which is linked to the new coronavirus, and anyone who has had close contact with these cases must self-isolate at home. The local health authority still monitors and checks their health regularly, Huy added.
The chairman also told the competent agencies to remind people not to hold large gatherings at the end of the lockdown and to wear face masks in public.
Hanoi has not reported any fresh cases of Covid-19 in the community over the past 28 days. However, it still poses a possible risk because of the large number of people traveling to and from the city, remarked Hoang Duc Hanh, deputy director of the municipal Health Department.
He added that scores of Vietnamese citizens abroad are expected to return home in the coming days and will be quarantined on arrival, but extreme caution is necessary, especially with infected people who entered the country illegally through border crossings.
