HCMC – Long An Province has launched a VND920-billion project to construct a provincial road linking the My Quy Tay Border Gate with other eastern and southwestern provinces.
On January 5, the People’s Committee of Long An Province held a ceremony to mark the connection of the Vam Co Dong Bridge and break ground on the Provincial Road 822B project, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
The project encompasses the construction of the Vam Co Dong Bridge and the 11.4-kilometer road that will connect major transport routes, including Ho Chi Minh Road and National Highway N2, said Nguyen Minh Lam, vice chairman of Long An Province.
In the first phase, the project features a seven-meter-wide asphalted road with bridges spanning canals, streams, and the Vam Co Dong River. The road will have a total width of nine meters, while the main bridge will be 536 meters long and 13 meters wide.
The Vam Co Dong Bridge, a core component of the project, carries a contract value of over VND322 billion. Construction, which began in April 2023, has successfully connected both sides of the Vam Co Dong River. The bridge is slated to open by the end of April this year.
The project requires clearing nearly 35 hectares, impacting 287 households and seven organizations. Most of the land has been cleared, with compensation for the remaining six households underway.
The Long An Department of Transport is responsible for completing the remaining components within the planned timeline. The completion of Provincial Road 822B is expected to enhance trade and transportation across the region, fostering economic development and regional connectivity.
