HCMC – The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and the HCMC Party Committee are scheduled to hold a memorial service at 8:00 p.m. today, November 19, to pay tribute to residents, frontline healthcare workers, troops and police officers who died of Covid-19.
The event will be held at the Reunification Palace in District 1 and other venues in Thu Duc City and districts citywide and the Reunification Park in Hanoi aimed at sharing the pain and losses of the families who lost their loved ones to the Covid-19 pandemic.
As of November 18, Vietnam had recorded 1,065,469 Covid-19 cases, with 23,476 of them dead. HCMC alone made up a vast majority of the deaths, at more than 17,000. Most of them could not have their family around them.
HCMC will suspend religious events from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Instead, activities to pay tribute to Covid-19 victims under the form of each religion will be held.
Some localities have also called on residents to turn off lights and light candles at 8:30 p.m.
The memorial service will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television, HCMC Television and other TV channels.
