More than 5,500 fresh Covid-19 cases confirmed

HCMC – The Ministry of Health reported 5,519 new Covid-19 infections this evening, October 31, which indicates a gradual increase in fresh cases in the past five days, hovering between 4,800 and 5,500 new infections a day after moving around 4,000 earlier. The new infections today included 15 imported cases and 5,504 locally-infected ones in 46 provinces and cities nationwide.

The number of domestic cases rose by 280 cases against yesterday. Also, the source of transmission of more than 2,300 cases remains unknown.

HCMC as usual took the lead in the case number, at 1,041. Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Bac Lieu, An Giang were among the 13 localities that recorded a triple-digit number in new cases.

Tay Ninh, Nam Dinh, and Ninh Thuan provinces saw the steepest decline in new cases versus the previous day, down 93, 18, and 11 cases to 110, 6, and 58, respectively. Meanwhile, An Giang, Binh Thuan, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau reported the biggest rise in cases, up 111, 51, and 39 cases to 342, 130, and 64, respectively.

Besides, 53 new Covid deaths were confirmed the same day, with 52 of them in southern localities. HCMC as the biggest hotspot reported 21 deaths.

The ministry also announced nearly 2,000 new recoveries in the day, sending the country’s total recoveries to over 820,300 cases.

In related news, as the Covid outbreak is raging in mountainous areas in the central province of Quang Nam, the provincial government on October 29 decided to establish Covid Field Hospital No.1 with 300 beds at the Quang Nam Traditional Medicine Hospital in Tam Ky City to admit, quarantine, monitor and treat coronavirus patients.

Mai Van Muoi, head of the provincial health authority, said the mountainous districts of Phuoc Son and Nam Giang reported a combined number of 306 new cases between October 12 and 29. Nam Tra My District, another mountainous locality in Quang Nam, recorded 230 new cases from October 24 to 29.

Local medical facilities in Quang Nam are providing treatment for 389 Covid patients. Among them, the Covid Field Hospital No.1 is treating 116 patients who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms from Nam Tra My.

In Danang, which borders Quang Nam, the city government has announced it will vaccinate students aged 15-17, including foreign students, against Covid starting from November 2.
