HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, September 11, reported 11,932 fresh Covid-19 cases, with 11,927 being domestic infections in 36 provinces and cities, down 1,379 cases over yesterday, while 273 deaths were confirmed, including previous 56 cases updated by Dong Nai Province.
Among the locally-infected cases, HCMC took the lead with 5,629 infections, down 1,910 against yesterday, taking the city’s count to 291,871 in the ongoing fourth wave of the pandemic, which began in late April.
Binh Duong Province reported 3,971 Covid-19 cases, up 408 over yesterday, followed by Dong Nai with 960, Long An with 337, Kien Giang with 165, Tien Giang with 147, Tay Ninh with 137 and An Giang with 107. The remaining 28 localities detected fewer than 100 cases each.
The latest new cases have raised the country’s Covid tally to 601,349, with 596,980 domestic infections reported in the fourth wave.
The country’s total recoveries have reached 363,462 as over 12,540 patients were discharged from hospitals today.
Apart from fatalities updated by Dong Nai Province to the national Covid-19 information system, the ministry also reported 217 new Covid-19 deaths, with 188 in HCMC, 10 in Binh Duong, four in Dong Nai, three in Kien Giang, two each in Tien Giang, Binh Thuan and Danang and one each in Gia Lai, Can Tho, Ninh Thuan, Khanh Hoa, Nghe An and Vinh Long.
Vietnam’s Covid death toll has hit 15,018, accounting for 2.5% of the total infections.
As for Covid vaccination, over 27.1 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered to people nationwide, with over 4.7 million people having received two shots.
In related news, the Field Hospital No. 1 in the mountainous northern province of Lao Cai on September 10 discharged the final two Covid-19 patients undergoing treatment there.
In the current fourth wave, the province reported 96 Covid-19 cases, with 10 of them receiving treatment at the national hospital for tropical diseases in Hanoi City.
After more than two months of treatment, all the patients have made a full recovery from the disease, the local media reported.
On the same day, the Ministry of Health continued allocating a batch of over 156,160 vials of Remdesivir, which is used for treatment of Covid-19 patients.
Among 46 Covid treatment facilities, hospitals and the health departments in 26 provinces and cities getting the drug, the HCMC Department of Health was allocated the highest volume at some 40,000 vials.
Until now, some 384,000 vials of Remdesivir, part of the 500,000 vials that Vingroup had promised to present to the Ministry of Health, have been allocated by the ministry to Covid-19 treatment facilities and the provincial and municipal health departments nationwide.
Speaking at an anti-virus meeting on September 11, a representative of the ministry said that the ministry was speeding up the import of 1.7 million doses of Remdesivir for Covid-19 patients, and continued to access other Covid treatment drugs to reduce the Covid death rate.
