New Covid infections in Danang rise sharply

HCMC – The central city of Danang reported 123 additional Covid cases today, August 31, up twofold against yesterday, according to the city’s anti-Covid authority.

Among the fresh cases, 47 cases were found in concentrated quarantine centers, 22 cases caught the disease while undergoing home isolation and 42 were detected in areas under lockdown.

Two of the new patients are local competent forces who were on duty at a Covid checkpoint in Tam Thuan Ward of Hai Chau District. Another case is a medical worker who had collected samples for Covid testing at a residential area in Son Tra District’s An Hai Dong Ward. One more case was found to be infected with the disease after developing symptoms and being taken to the Danang C Hospital.

According to the local health authority, all of the seven districts of the city reported new infections that pose a risk of community transmission. Thanh Khe District took the lead in the number of cases at 36, followed by Hai Chau and Cam Le districts with 20 and 17 cases, respectively.

The central coastal city has been following the stricter stay-at-home mandate for 14 days, with local residents banned from leaving their homes. The local health sector has conducted screening Covid tests for hundreds of thousands of residents to isolate infected cases. However, the number of new cases is still on the rise.

Since May 3 to date, Danang has reported 4,299 infections.
