New daily Covid cases rise to nearly 4,000

HCMC – The Ministry of Health confirmed 3,949 fresh Covid-19 cases this evening, May 12, rising by 1,191 against yesterday.

The new cases were found in 55 cities and provinces.

The Central Highlands province of Daklak took the lead by case count, with 1,251 cases, followed by Hanoi with 509 and Bac Ninh with 346. Nghe An, Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc had over 100 cases each.

The provincial health authority of Quang Ninh today registered to add 2,550 earlier-detected cases to the national Covid monitoring system.

More than 7,400 Covid patients were declared free of the disease, raising the country’s total recoveries to over 9.3 million.

Meanwhile, three Covid dealths were confirmed in Daklak.

The Ministry of Health has asked local authorities to register their Covid vaccine demand for the administering of the fourth dose with institutes of hygiene and epidemiology and Pasteur Institutes before May 25.

These institutes will inform the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the total volume of doses needed before May 30.

According to the Ministry of Health, people aged 50 and older; people aged 18 and older with immunodeficiency; and those at risk of infection with Covid, such as frontline workers and workers in industrial parks, will receive the fourth shot first.

The fourth shot should be administered at least four months after the third one. Those infected with Covid after having got three doses would have to wait for at least three months after recovery to get the fourth dose.

The Ministry of Health also asked the Departments of Health of cities and provinces to accelerate the administering of the third shot to residents aged 18 and older to complete the vaccination this quarter as required by the Government.

They should also expedite the vaccination of children aged between five and 11, ensuring the completion of the vaccination this quarter in a safe and effective manner.
