HCMC – Vietnam and China have launched a new cross-border intermodal logistics railway connecting Yen Vien Station in Hanoi City and China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The addition of the new transport corridor is expected to provide a more stable freight channel, strengthen multimodal transport capacity, and help reduce logistics costs across supply chains between the two economies.

The first container train operating on the new route departed Guigang Station in Guangxi on the afternoon of May 23, carrying 170 tons of calcium hydroxide. The train passed through Nanning International Railway Port to complete transshipment procedures before continuing directly to Yen Vien Station.

The route is the latest cross-border rail freight service to enter commercial operation following the earlier launch of the “Liuzhou–Nanning–Vietnam” corridor, further expanding domestic and international trade connectivity between the two countries.

The establishment of the new logistics corridor comes as bilateral trade between Vietnam and China continues to grow strongly, making it urgent to diversify transport modes and reduce reliance on road freight, which frequently faces congestion at border gates during peak periods.

To ensure stable and efficient operations from the outset, China’s railway authorities have introduced a coordination mechanism involving customs agencies, operating units and import-export businesses to streamline container handling procedures and shorten customs clearance times at border crossings.
