Foreign tourists learn preparing Vietnamese dishes

M.O.M. Cooking Class, which teaches foreign guests how to prepare four Vietnamese dishes per session, has been opened in a house in an alley on Yersin Street in District 1, HCMC, by Nguyen Dinh Le Hoa.

The class is divided into four areas: the main kitchen, rows of tables for food preparation, a resting lounge, and an outdoor charcoal grilling area. Dishes are specialties of the three regions of the country, and are changed after every three months.

Hoa told vnexpress.net that he often selects dishes of which ingredients can be easily found at supermarkets selling Vietnamese foods abroad. Foreign students of these classes will receive detailed recipes of the Vietnamese dishes they have learned so that they can cook them when back home.

Hoa said foreign tourists often attended his cooking class on the last days of their Vietnam visits, adding that tuition fees are US$30-35 per student per class in off-peak travel seasons, when he can receive some 10 guests a day, and US$40-45 in peak travel seasons, when the number of students may double or even triple that in off-peak travel seasons.

Students of Hoa’s cooking class can go to the market to buy necessary ingredients for the four Vietnamese dishes they will learn how to cook.

Free instant noodle soup for needy people in HCMC

A zero-dong noodle cart in District 12, HCMC, has garnered significant public attention by offering free noodle soup to low-income earners and uplifting their spirits with live music performances, according to Thanh Nien news site.

A group of eight young people, led by Lieu Hung, operates the noodle cart. Every Saturday evening for the past two months, Hung’s group has been serving warm bowls of noodles to laborers in District 12.

Each week, the group prepares 700 to 1,000 portions of free noodles, visiting different locations in District 12 to invite people to eat. They sometimes go to areas with many boarding houses and other times to industrial zones.

Starting from the fourth week, the group began inviting young singers to perform live music next to the noodle cart to entertain the diners. Despite the absence of stages and dazzling lights, every singer pours their heart into their performance, fueled by the cheers of hundreds of residents in District 12.

“Enjoying noodles and listening to singers perform—it feels like a festive day, not just an ordinary one,” a diner happily said.

Passports to Vietnam’s National Parks

Vietnam has launched the National Park Passports initiative, aiming to encourage tourists to explore and appreciate the country’s forest ecosystems, thereby promoting ecotourism in national parks and nature reserves.

This initiative is part of a memorandum of cooperation between Vietnam’s Forestry Department, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), and Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam, signed on July 11.

In its initial phase, the National Park Passports will be implemented in 34 national parks within the special-use forest system that offer tourism activities. These passports will be available in both paper and electronic formats for domestic and international tourists.

The passport serves to document visits to Vietnam’s national parks, allowing owners to earn points redeemable for rewards such as dining or accommodation discounts. Additionally, it provides information on 36 national parks, according to the VnExpress news site.
