HCMC – The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, or CAAV, has approved a plan to pilot facial recognition technology for passengers at the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi from April 17 to May 17.
The airport will pilot the technology during flight check-ins at Zone C, on the second floor of Terminal 1, as well as at the two trial counters of A31 and A32 in Terminal 1. Bamboo Airways will participate in this program.
This pilot program is voluntary, so passengers are not required to use a facial recognition system.
CAAV asked the airport leaders to take measures to avoid congestion and handle any arising issues during the pilot program.
The Noi Bai International Airport will also work with relevant units to conduct the pilot program, as well as update information and notify passengers accordingly.
Previously, CAAV trialed biometric authentication technology at the Cat Bi International Airport in Haiphong and the Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province.
After over two months of piloting biometric verification technology at Cat Bi Airport, CAAV reported to the Ministry of Transport to request an extension of the pilot period for this new technology.
