One dead, multiple students hospitalized with food poisoning suspected

HCMC – A female fifth-grader in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province, was found dead with an unclear cause, while many other students were hospitalized with signs of food poisoning after having breakfast.

The government of Nha Trang City issued a statement today, April 5, addressing the incident involving the death of a fifth-grade student and the hospitalization of several others due to suspected food poisoning.

At around 6:55 a.m. on April 5, the fifth-grader of Vinh Truong Primary School felt tired and fainted after finishing breakfast. Upon transfer to the hospital for emergency treatment, the student was pronounced dead.

Several other students showed symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting, and headache between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on the same day. Subsequently, the school provided first aid and transferred 19 students to the hospitals.

Nine students at Tran Hung Dao Secondary School in Vinh Truong Ward were also hospitalized at around 9 a.m. on the same day, with signs of food poisoning.

According to reports from the hospitals, all the students are currently in stable condition.

“According to the initial information obtained, the students had breakfast with a variety of dishes from different eateries and street vendors located outside the school,” the city government’s statement.

Local police are investigating the incident.
