HCMC – Over 1.5 million more doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, part of the 30 million doses ordered by the Vietnam Vaccine JSC (VNVC), arrived at the HCMC-based Tan Son Nhat International Airport on December 9.

This is the final batch of the Covid-19 vaccine that AstraZeneca has shipped to Vietnam under the deal with VNVC, the local media reported.

Earlier, VNVC had placed an order for 30 million doses with the UK pharmaceutical company. These doses would be shipped to Vietnam in several batches, with the first batch of 117,600 doses handed over to the country in February.

On November 2, VNVC signed another contract with AstraZeneca to buy 25 million Covid-19 vaccine doses for Vietnam. The handover of the vaccine will start from late December to 2022.

Nitin Kapoor, chairman and general director of AstraZeneca for Vietnam and frontier markets in Asia, said that the handover of the vaccine marked a key milestone and contributed to protecting the health of the Vietnamese people and helping the economy recover.

Between March and December 7, Vietnam received over 156 million Covid vaccine doses, according to the Ministry of Health.

As of December 9, the country had administered 130 million doses of the Covid vaccine to people nationwide, with 76% of its adult population having been fully vaccinated.
