Over 39,000 new Covid cases reported

HCMC – Among the 39,334 new Covid-19 cases that the Ministry of Health reported this evening, April 8, one was imported and the remainder were locally-infected, down 6,551 cases day-on-day.

Hanoi continued registering the most infections, at 2,897, followed by Yen Bai with 2,115, Bac Giang with 2,052, Phu Tho with 1,992 and Nghe An with 1,891.

Lao Cai, Bac Kan, Daklak, Vinh Phuc, Quang Ninh and Quang Binh had over 1,000 cases each.

The Department of Health of Bac Giang Province today registered to add 25,763 cases detected previously to the national Covid monitoring system.

In the current fourth Covid wave, Vietnam has recorded more than 10.1 million Covid cases, including nearly 8.5 million recoveries.

The Ministry of Health today also confirmed 35 Covid deaths, sending the country’s total Covid death toll to 42,768.

In related news, more than seven million Covid vaccine doses for children aged between five and 11, donated by Australia, will be shipped to Vietnam this month, said Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen.

Tuyen said the vaccine would arrive in three batches, with the first batch of one million doses coming on April 9. The second batch of some two million doses will be handed over to Vietnam on April 13 and the third batch of over four million doses, before April 18.

The vaccination of these children will begin as soon as the vaccine arrives in Vietnam.

According to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Vietnam has more than 11.8 million children aged between six and 11.

The Ministry of Health has also assigned the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology to coordinate with the General Department of Preventive Medicine to build a plan to administer the fourth shot and submit the plan to the ministry before April 15.
