HCMC – Fines totaling nearly VND20 billion were imposed on more than 7,500 traffic violation cases on January 27, coinciding with the 28th of the final lunar month, the third day of the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
The Traffic Police Department said this afternoon, January 27, that a total of 52 traffic accidents occurred on the day, leaving 26 people dead and 36 others injured. Compared to the same period in 2024, this represents a decrease of 32 accidents, 12 fatalities, and 33 injuries.
Traffic police tackled 7,541 traffic violations, collecting fines close to VND20 billion, temporarily detaining 47 cars, 2,294 motorcycles, and 65 other vehicles. Additionally, 428 driver’s licenses were detained and points were deducted from 686 licenses.
Among these, 1,842 cases of alcohol-related violations and 1,743 cases of speeding violations were handled.
The traffic police teams on expressways inspected and recorded 78 violation cases, including 27 passenger vehicles, 11 trucks, 38 cars, one container, and one motorcycle. Seven drivers had their licenses revoked, and 22 had points deducted from their licenses.
Using the monitoring system, the teams identified 19 violations related to traffic order and safety. A total of 88 violations were detected through technical equipment, with 37 vehicles stopped and administrative violation reports issued.
Additionally, 27 violations were identified during mobile patrols and surveillance, with 19 violation reports issued and notifications sent for eight cases.
