HCMC – A batch of 852,480 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine donated by Germany to Vietnam through the Covax Facility arrived in Hanoi today, September 16.

Dr. Guido Hildner, German Ambassador to Vietnam, said that Germany would always stand with Vietnam in the fight against the pandemic.

“We can defeat the pandemic only when it is brought under control everywhere, so Germany and the European Union support the Covax vaccination campaign for fair and transparent access to Covid-19 vaccines worldwide,” said Hildner.

Dr. Kidong Park, acting United Nations resident coordinator and the World Health Organization (WHO) representative to Vietnam, thanked the German Government and people for their assistance to Vietnam through the Covax Facility.

“Due to the challenging pandemic in Vietnam, we continue to support the Vietnamese Government’s plan to prioritize vaccinations for health workers, frontline workers, the elderly and people suffering from underlying illnesses,” Park added.

With the latest delivery of Covid vaccine doses presented by Germany, Vietnam has received 12,578,110 doses through the Covax Facility, the local media reported.

Earlier on September 3, the German Government decided to donate some 2.5 million doses of AstraZeneca to Vietnam.

Germany had earlier announced that it would donate 75 ventilators, 15 medical monitors and 20,000 oxygen meters to Vietnam.
