HCMC – Party General Secretary and State President To Lam arrived in New Delhi on May 5, beginning his three-day state visit to India at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Vietnamese delegation landed at Palam Military Airport and was received by Indian Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Tshering Wangchuk Sherpa, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai, and other officials, along with embassy staff and the Vietnamese community in India.
Following his arrival, To Lam met with Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and held meetings with staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in India.
During the visit, To Lam is scheduled to hold talks with senior Indian leaders in New Delhi and visit Mumbai, focusing discussions on strategic directions to enhance cooperation in areas including science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, healthcare, clean energy, infrastructure, and people-to-people exchanges.
The visit marks To Lam’s first trip to India in his current positions and coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam–India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (2016–2026).
Vietnam and India established diplomatic relations on January 7, 1972. The two countries elevated ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in September 2016 and issued a joint statement to further strengthen relations on August 1, 2024.
