Party Gen Sec To Lam and nine other Politburo members re-elected to Party Central Committee

HCMC – Party General Secretary To Lam, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Standing Member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu, and seven other Politburo members have been re-elected to the Party Central Committee in the 14th term.

On the afternoon of January 22, the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam conducted voting to elect the 14th Party Central Committee. The Congress elected 180 full members and 20 alternate members.

According to the announced list, 10 of the 16 members of the 13th-term Politburo were re-elected to the new Party Central Committee.

These include three key Party and State leaders: Party General Secretary To Lam, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, and Standing Member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu.

To Lam, a 69-year-old native of Hung Yen Province, holds the academic titles of Professor and Doctor of Law. He has served as a member of the Party Central Committee in the 11th, 12th and 13th terms, and as a Politburo member in the 12th and 13th terms. His previous positions include Minister of Public Security, President of the State, and Party General Secretary.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, a 64-year-old native of Can Tho City, holds a doctorate in economics. He has served as a member of the Party Central Committee in the 10th term (alternate), and the 11th, 12th and 13th terms; as a member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat in the 12th term; and as a Politburo member in the 13th term. He previously served as President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, and National Assembly Chairman.

Standing Member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu, a 65-year-old native of Ha Tinh Province, has served as a member of the Party Central Committee in the 10th term (alternate), and the 11th, 12th and 13th terms; as a member of the Secretariat in the 12th and 13th terms; and as a Politburo member in the 13th term. He previously served as chairman of the Inspection Commission of the Party Central Committee before assuming his current post.

Seven other Politburo members were also re-elected to the Party Central Committee in the 14th term, namely Le Minh Hung, head of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission, Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Do Van Chien, Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security; and General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Chairman of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army, and Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee.

Le Minh Hung, a 56-year-old native of Ha Tinh Province, has served as a member of the Party Central Committee in the 12th and 13th terms; as a member of the Secretariat in the 13th term; and as a deputy of the 15th National Assembly. He was elected to the Politburo in May 2024. He previously spent many years working at the State Bank of Vietnam and served nearly a full term as Governor of the State Bank, before becoming chief of the Party Central Committee Office and later head of the Organization Commission of the Party Central Committee.

Born in 1965, Bui Thi Minh Hoai is a native of Ninh Binh Province and holds a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in law. She has served as a member of the Party Central Committee in the 10th term (alternate), and the 11th, 12th and 13th terms; as a member of the Secretariat in the 13th term; and as a Politburo member since May 2024.

Do Van Chien, 64, is a native of Tuyen Quang Province and has served as a member of the Party Central Committee in the 10th term (alternate), and the 11th, 12th and 13th terms, and was elected to the Politburo in May 2024. He previously served as Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, and as President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee.

General Phan Van Giang is a 66-year-old native of Ninh Binh Province. He has served two terms on the Party Central Committee (12th and 13th terms) and is a Politburo member of the 13th term. He has held the post of Minister of National Defense since 2021.

General Luong Tam Quang, born in 1965, is a native of Hung Yen Province. He has served as a member of the Party Central Committee in the 13th term and was elected to the Politburo in August 2024.

General Nguyen Trong Nghia is a 64-year-old native of Tien Giang Province (now Dong Thap Province). He has served as a member of the Party Central Committee in the 12th and 13th terms; as a member of the Secretariat in the 13th term; and as a Politburo member since May 2024.

Nguyen Duy Ngoc has served as a member of the Party Central Committee in the 13th term and was elected to the Politburo in January 2025. His previous positions include Deputy Minister of Public Security, Chief of the Party Central Committee Office, and Chairman of the Inspection Commission of the Party Central Committee.
