HCMC – Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse have arrived in Singapore, beginning their official visit to the Southeast Asian city-state from March 11 to 13, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
The visit is made at the invitation of Prime Minister and Secretary-General of the People’s Action Party (PAP) of Singapore Lawrence Wong.
The Vietnamese delegation was welcomed by Singaporean Minister of Manpower Tan See Leng, Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Jaya Ratnam, Chief of Protocol of the Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chia Wei Wen, Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tran Phuoc Anh, and officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore.
This is Lam’s first visit to Singapore in his capacity as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, demonstrating Vietnam’s special attention to elevating relations with Singapore to new heights, in line with Vietnam’s foreign policy.
The visit is expected to strengthen ties between the two ruling Parties, establish a solid political foundation for bilateral relations, and foster cooperation across various sectors, including green economy, digital economy, science and technology, innovation, clean energy, and financial center development.
Singapore was among the first ASEAN nations with which Vietnam formed a strategic partnership in September 2013. Since then, Vietnam-Singapore ties have continued to strengthen, yielding effective cooperation across various sectors.
Since 1996, Singapore has consistently been one of Vietnam’s largest partners. In 2024, total bilateral trade reached US$10.3 billion, a 14.7% rise compared to 2023.
In terms of investment, Singapore is currently the largest ASEAN investor in Vietnam and ranks second among 147 countries and territories investing in the country, with 3,915 valid projects and total registered capital of US$83 billion.
