HCMC – Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse will pay a state visit to Indonesia, an official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat, and an official visit to Singapore from March 9 to 13.
The visit is made at the invitations of Indonesian President and Great Indonesia Movement Party leader Prabowo Subianto, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, and Singapore’s Prime Minister and People’s Action Party (PAP) Secretary-General Lawrence Wong, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Indonesia is currently Vietnam’s second-largest trading partner in ASEAN, with bilateral trade reaching US$16.7 billion in 2024, a 21.6% increase from 2023. Both countries have set a target of raising trade volume to US$18 billion by 2028.
Vietnam’s strategic partnership with Singapore has also seen steady growth. In a recent phone conversation, Party General Secretary To Lam and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties.
Singapore ranks as Vietnam’s fourth-largest trading partner in ASEAN and 14th globally, with bilateral trade amounting to US$10.3 billion in 2024, up by 14.7% year-on-year.
Vietnam has been an active member of ASEAN since joining on July 28, 1995. Under its approach of being “proactive, active, and responsible,” the country has contributed significantly to ASEAN’s development and regional cooperation.
