HCMC – Party General Secretary To Lam departed Hanoi on the morning of February 5, leading a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on a state visit to Laos.
According to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), the official delegation includes 10 Politburo members.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of its Organisation Commission Le Minh Hung and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai are also in the delegation.
Speaking to the press, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong said Party General Secretary To Lam chose Laos as the first country to visit in his new term. The visit is also the first state visit Laos has hosted following its 12th Party Congress. Earlier, the General Secretary and President of Laos was the first foreign leader to visit Vietnam after Vietnam’s 14th National Party Congress.
The visit provides an opportunity for the two countries to reaffirm their special solidarity, close-knit and enduring ties, as well as the highest political determination of their senior leaders to advance bilateral relations in a more substantive and effective manner, aligned with each country’s development needs and long-term strategic interests.
During the visit, To Lam is scheduled to hold talks and meetings with senior Lao leaders to exchange views on the situation of each Party and country, review recent cooperation outcomes, and agree on major orientations for bilateral relations in the new development phase.
The two sides are also expected to sign several important cooperation documents between ministries, sectors, and localities, creating a stronger legal framework and new momentum for deeper and more effective cooperation.
