HCMC – Phu Quoc Island off the coast of Kien Giang Province in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta has moved up to fifth place in DestinAsian’s 18th Reader’s Choice Awards, improving its position from sixth place in 2024.

DestinAsian, a travel and lifestyle magazine specializing in the Asia-Pacific region, compiles its annual rankings based on votes from travelers worldwide. The awards assess service quality, travel experiences, and visitor satisfaction. Phu Quoc’s rise in the rankings highlights its increasing appeal and enhanced tourism offerings.

The island has gained significant international recognition in recent years. In 2024, the U.S.-based travel magazine Travel + Leisure ranked Phu Quoc as the world’s second most beautiful island, trailing only the Maldives and ahead of Bali and Phuket.

Phu Quoc is renowned for its natural beauty, featuring white sandy beaches, clear turquoise waters, and diverse marine ecosystems. The southern beaches, including Bai Kem and Bai Sao, are particularly famous for their pristine conditions and tranquil atmosphere.

Beyond its natural attractions, the island has expanded its tourism offerings. Sunset Town has become a major entertainment hub, featuring the Kiss Bridge, a unique architectural landmark, and the Kiss of the Sea multimedia show. The Vui Phet Night Market offers a vibrant street food scene and shopping experience, while nightly fireworks displays add to the lively ambiance.

Phu Quoc is also home to the world’s longest three-wire cable car connecting the island to Hon Thom, a highlight noted in DestinAsian’s award announcement.

The island’s luxury resorts have also received international acclaim. The JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort, designed by renowned architect Bill Bensley, was ranked Vietnam’s top resort, while New World Phu Quoc Resort secured the 10th position.

Phu Quoc is set to gain even more prominence as it prepares to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum in 2027, a milestone event that is expected to elevate its status as a global tourism and business destination.
