PM orders probe into deadly traffic accident in Gia Lai

HCMC – The Prime Minister has ordered an investigation into a traffic accident in Gia Lai Province which occurred on February 9 and killed six people.

The prime minister also asked the ministries of Public Security, Transport and Health, the National Traffic Safety Committee and the Gia Lai government to quickly handle the consequences of the fatal traffic accident.

Earlier at 1.00 a.m. on the day, a truck carrying cassava and nine people fell off a cliff into a valley some 70 meters in depth while traveling on the Dak Somei-Ha Dong route in Dak Doa District in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai. The accident left six, including the driver, dead and the remaining three injured.

After being notified of the deadly accident, the prime minister sent condolences to the families of the deceased and urged the National Traffic Safety Committee and the province’s police to come to the scene of the accident to clarify the reason of the incident and support the families of the deceased and the injured.

The prime minister also ordered competent forces to offer the best conditions to treat the injured and penalize organizations or individuals for causing the fatal accident, the local media reported.

The Ministry of Transport was tasked with collaborating with the Gia Lai Department of Transport and the transport departments of other cities and provinces to check the compliance with regulations on auto transport business to impose harsh sanctions on violators.

To contain traffic accidents, the Government leader told the Ministry of Transport to ask the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam to enhance surveillance through equipment on vehicles and quickly provide data for police officers and the provincial and municipal departments of transport to handle traffic violations.
