HCMC – The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has urged the Ministry of Public Security to investigate and address social media allegations that CP Vietnam had sold diseased pork.
A social media post from user Jonny Lieu, who has 29,000 followers, went viral on May 30, 2025, accusing CP Vietnam executives of serious misconduct at a CP Fresh Shop in My Xuyen Town, Soc Trang Province.
The post said that the store regularly supplied the Fresh Shop outlet in Soc Trang with diseased pork and chickens, some showing signs of foul odor, abscesses, and red spots, for sale to the market.
At a press briefing on June 3, Nguyen Thu Thuy, deputy director of the Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health, said authorities had asked CP Vietnam to report after images of diseased pigs at one of its stores spread on social media.
Verification showed the images were taken on March 26, 2022, at the Dung Nga slaughterhouse in Hau Giang Province, a facility processing animals for CP Vietnam.
Thuy confirmed that the use of a square quarantine stamp on the pigs was improper. “Pigs with dermatitis must carry a circular stamp for repurposing, while diseased pigs slated for disposal must be marked with a triangular stamp. The square stamp is reserved for products cleared for market circulation,” she said.
Following the allegations, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment instructed veterinary authorities to coordinate with local agencies to launch inspections.
The People’s Committee of Soc Trang Province mobilized relevant departments and the police to conduct a surprise inspection at CP Vietnam’s Store No. 12 in My Xuyen Town, My Xuyen District.
It found no evidence of diseased pork or chicken, or expired products as alleged. However, the store was found in violation for operating with an expired food safety certificate and failing to present a business registration license and proof of food safety training.
