HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has asked the prime minister for approval of a prefeasibility study to widen the Cam Lo-La Son Expressway from two to four lanes, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

The proposed expansion will cover a total length of 98.35 kilometers, with 36.3 kilometers running through Quang Tri Province and 62.05 kilometers through Thua Thien-Hue Province.

The expressway will have four traffic lanes instead of the current two, with the roadbed widened from 12 meters to 22 meters.

In sections where the current roadbed width is 23.25 meters, the project will prioritize expanding emergency stopping lanes. Bridges along the route will also be modified to accommodate the new four-lane configuration, ensuring safety and smoother traffic flow.

The Ministry of Transport estimates the total project investment at VND6,488 billion. This includes around VND5,078 billion for construction and equipment, VND84 billion for compensation, support, and resettlement, VND406 billion for management and consultancy, and VND920 billion for contingency costs.

The ministry has recommended that the project be funded through public investment, with measures in place to recover state funds after the project’s completion.

If approved, the project construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with all components slated for completion by the end of that year.
