HCMC – More than 570km of three new expressway sections have been proposed for inclusion in Vietnam’s national road network development plan, with priority investment targeted before 2030.

The longest route is the 378-km Lang Son–Thai Nguyen–Tuyen Quang–Yen Bai–Son La expressway. The four-lane expressway is envisioned as a northern corridor connecting major administrative centers and international border gates such as Tan Thanh in Lang Son and Chieng Khuong in Son La, forming a more complete cross-border transport network.

In the central region, the 141-km Phan Thiet–Bao Loc–Gia Nghia expressway will create an east–west economic corridor. The route would help shorten transport times for bauxite, alumina, and agricultural products from the Central Highlands to major seaports and airports in the southern region.

The proposal also includes the 55-km Viet Tri–Hoa Binh expressway, which is expected to ease congestion and improve traffic distribution across existing major routes such as the eastern and western North–South expressways and the Noi Bai–Lao Cai expressway.

The proposal aligns with ongoing adjustments to the road network development plan for 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050, aimed at unlocking key economic corridors and strengthening regional connectivity.

The Department for Roads of Vietnam has submitted the proposal to the Ministry of Construction, focusing on critical transport links to reduce logistics costs and enhance inter-regional connectivity.
