HCMC – The HCMC Department of Transport has proposed maintaining the operation of three-wheeler and rudimentary vehicles in the city and canceling a plan to restrict these vehicles from entering downtown HCMC and eliminate them from the streets after 2025.

In a document sent to the municipal Police Department and the governments of Thu Duc City and districts, the Department of Transport suggested enhancing inspections and handling the violations of these vehicles’ owners instead of banning such vehicles, the local media reported.

According to the department, the demand for these vehicles is reasonable as they are convenient for transporting cargo in narrow streets and alleys. Therefore, the ban on them will affect the lives of low-income residents.

Earlier, the HCMC Department of Transport had proposed banning three-wheeler and rudimentary vehicles from entering the downtown area and some streets surrounding the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Tan Binh District from 2021 to 2022. From 2025 onward, they were sought to be completely banned.
