HCMC – The Ministry of Health has written to cities and provinces asking them to put in place measures to reduce Covid-19 deaths.

Covid cases in the country continue to surge, piling pressure on the healthcare system, according to the ministry.

To improve Covid treatment, the ministry asked the provinces and cities nationwide to review the capacity of Covid treatment facilities, improve the quality of Covid treatment and provide healthcare centers and Covid treatment facilities with sufficient equipment.

The ministry emphasized the need to ensure an adequate supply of medical oxygen for critically ill Covid patients and call on private and public hospitals to participate in treating Covid patients.

These measures are aimed at lowering the Covid death rates, said the ministry.

Local healthcare centers should make a list of Covid patients under home care and treatment and regularly measure their oxygen saturation to assess their health condition and promptly make a referral, the local media reported.

In addition, the provinces and cities were told to pay attention to and monitor the health of people with a high risk of infection, such as unvaccinated people, those aged 50 and older, and people with underlying illnesses. These people must be fully vaccinated as soon as possible.

Apart from mobilizing volunteers to join the Covid treatment operations, local healthcare authorities and hospitals should ensure medical workers do not work for more than eight hours a day.
