Quang Ngai, Kon Tum jolted by multiple quakes

HCMC – The central province of Quang Ngai and the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum were repeatedly shaken by earthquakes over the past two days, with no risk of a natural disaster reported, according to the Institute of Geophysics.

A 2.5-magnitude earthquake hit Son Ha District of Quang Ngai Province at 2:27 a.m. today, March 14, with a depth of around 10 kilometers.

Neighboring Kon Tum Province was struck by four quakes in two days. The most recent one, measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale, occurred at 6:25 a.m. today in Kon Plong District, with a depth of some eight kilometers.

Yesterday, Kon Plong reported three mild quakes between 2.8 and 2.9 magnitude at an average depth of some 8.1 kilometers.

Since 2021, Kon Tum has been shaken by close to 500 quakes of different magnitude scales. The largest one measured 4.7 on the Richter scale. In the year to February 18, this Central Highlands district had been hit by 36 quakes.

The authorities in Kon Tum set up eight monitoring stations near the Thuong Kon Tum and Dak Drinh hydropower plants in Kon Plong.
